Comprehensive Behavioral Intervention Services International, Inc. was formally organized in 2010 to meet the needs of families in crisis facing severe behavioral challenges.  The goal of CBIS is to reach out to these families whose children are at serious risk of being placed in residential care; and collaboratively develop a behavior plan that supports a productive, stable and enjoyable life at home.

Did You Know?

  • In 2003, the New Freedom Commission on Mental Health detailed the need to adopt the following principles regarding mental health services, which are necessary for overall health; services must be child and family driven, must be available to all in need and must involve early screening, assessment and intervention/services.
  • Mental health services offered, as a comprehensive system of care for children and youth experiencing co-occurring mental health concerns, must address the following: prevention, assessment, home-based services, and emergency services.
  • When families are faced with often-unrelenting behavioral and emotional concerns of their child, inappropriate strategies and interventions emerge.  15 children out of 1,000 are victims of child maltreatment, 52% of which experience neglect, 24% endure physical abuse, 77% of which are at the hands of the parent (Lutzker and Bigelow, 2002).

We Also Know

There is a dire need to drastically reform the methods by which we meet the mental health needs of our children and youth (Duchnowski & Kutash, 2009).

Strengthening the role of the family in the application of support for our children has long been a goal for mental health care provision.  Yet, actual family-driven care has not yet been realized in the provision of services (Osher, Osher & Blau, 2006).

Specifically, families experiencing ongoing behavioral and emotional crisis with their child are ill equipped to address their child’s needs much less facilitate the provision of services for their child.

When strategies or interventions are focused on teaching self-management skills to parents with children who have behavioral challenges, both children and parents benefit (Sanders, Markie-Dadds, Tully & Bor, 2000).

It is the ambition of Comprehensive Behavioral Intervention Services International, Inc. to positively address these issues within the framework of Applied Behavior Analysis, Positive Behavioral Intervention and Supports and Intensive Collaborative Teaching.
